Why Mastic?
Property managers choose mastic asphalt patching because it’s fast, durable, and cost-effective. Its waterproof, flexible design bonds seamlessly to existing pavement, holds up to traffic and temperature changes, and can be installed with minimal downtime. By repairing only damaged areas instead of replacing entire surfaces, mastic asphalt extends pavement life while preserving safety, appearance, and performance.
The process
Preparation: The cracked area must be thoroughly cleaned and dried, often using a hot air lance to remove debris, vegetation, and moisture.
Heating: The mastic material is heated in a double-boiler or agitator-equipped melter to its specified application temperature.
Application: The hot material is poured, squeegeed, or applied via a pour box, filling and leveling the damaged area.
Finishing: A hot iron tool can be used to smooth the surface, ensuring a flush finish with the surrounding pavement.
Advantages:
Durability: Offers a long-lasting, flexible, and load-bearing repair.
Versatility: Suitable for year-round application with no major temperature restrictions.
Speed: Quick curing allows for immediate traffic return.
